Experimental Video #7: Under Industrial World Research & Design
LIVERPOOL
Currently on lockdown I am in Liverpool. During my time here and on my daily or nightly walks I have been able to see the town and the old abandoned factories that are dotted around as well as the interestingly shaped ones buildings. I took a few photos to use as reference for the bottom world This has had great impact on the ideas of how we could portray our underworld. This also led me in to looking at Liverpool's industrial history. Brief History of Liverpool: Liverpool was the hub of 40% of the world's slaver trade and the international trade of the city thrived because of this. During the industrial revolution the city boomed as they provided a wide range of commodities but primarily cotton. With large populations, and a thriving industry, the city was building up. Many factories were built to support the industry. As a result of this

THE LITTLE PRINCE (2015) Whilst thinking about how I could design the underworld, I was reminded of Netflix's The Little Prince. One of the worlds that the protagonist in the film visits has a very similar concept of our underworld. Though it is a very modern world, it is very grey and is based on the fact that people have become stuck in a horrible work orientated routine. It is ran by a corrupted, powerful man, the Business Man. The town is polluted by hundreds of chimneys, no sign of any plants. All the people who live there seem to be brain washed and work as if they are computer programmed by the business man.
I really want to reflect this idea of being an industrial styled world which is kept up by the workers but is also Ran by those who are in power (which we do not see or come across). I really like the use of pipes everywhere as well as chimneys.
Upside-Down World: The world that the Ghost currently lives in. It is also a horrible, muggy, industrial town with lots of other ghostly figures who are working hard. The town may have a red backlight to signify danger, movement and occupation. However, these ghosts remain in the background of the animations. With them, we will have bits of the town moving (depicted with stop motion animation). This is because we want to highlight the present day, hardworking society that the Upside-Down World is. The protagonist ghost will be long, thin and very ghostly-ill looking, the other ghosts in this world will be shorter and plumper.
