Experimental Video #8: Learning how to digitally animate
For this project, I wanted to have a go at digitally animating a little walking sequence of our ghost character. This was because our plan is to have the character wandering through the worlds. This little experiment was to test out our options of ways we could animate our sequences. I achieved this short walking sequence on photoshop by doing frame by frame drawings on a photoshop timeline.
For how long it took, I wasn't completely satisfied with the outcome. But was quite proud at the fact that this was my first digital animation ever. I wanted to stick with my original character design which made the animating a little harder in terms of sticking to proportions and making sure it looks like the same figure through out. I quickly realised that photoshop was probably not the easiest way to animate this. For each new frame I had to create a new layer and completely redraw the entire figure. I did attempt to do this on Adobe Animate through the use of key frames but I am still currently in the process of doing this.
I also found that I was limited by equiptment and time. I found it really hard to draw on photoshop on a laptop on touch pad mouse rather that an optical mouse. Furthermore, because I was learning on my own as I went along it was a bit difficult to figure out how to do certain things. For visual reference of where and how I should move the limbs I used a basic walk cycle image from google. This really helped when referring to my original character design and drawing. I did go wrong at times where the arms and legs didn't coordinate. But I was able to quickly mend this when looking back at the walk cycle image.
