Experimental Video #9: Evaluation

Working together, Ellie an I came up with the concept of creating two alternate 3D paper worlds, one representing the past and the other the present whilst projecting an animation on top. Our idea began as just a fun possible thing to do and now being able to see it as a work in progress has made us feel very creatively inspired. I feel as if we really worked hard together to overcome the problems which we faced due to COVID-19 because we both felt so passionate and exited by creating this.

We have fully developed as much of the idea as we could and we will also continue to work on and eventually execute it. Realistically, we would have liked to put together the set and film the project in one space. We both put in a lot of work in terms of research and successfully communicated and shared ideas through a google doc as well as phone calls or FaceTime. We were able to split the work between ourselves and help each other take on new roles when needed. I think that as a team we really worked hard, well together and really pushed each other to think outside the box.

Ellie worked hard on the main design of the town and making.  She also produced multiple audio tracks which we both feel really create the atmosphere and sets the tone for the project. We had no issues with clashes of ideas and were always working on the same wave length which was really good. I focused more on the character design and animation experimenting side. With the character design I was very satisfied with the outcome of this as the process of creating this really pushed my research skills through each design. In terms of the animation, I wasn't completely satisfied with the outcome. Though I had never done it before, I wanted to create a longer sequence and not just a walking sequence. However, I do feel that it is a good start and will continue to explore and develop my digital animation skills to achieve more sequences. But I also realised, until the set is fully put together, I cant animate to the most accuracy as I don't know where the ghost will be walking. But i really enjoyed exploring lighting with the little set I made and working on the experimental silhouette projections as I had to make do with the limited materials I had which i felt was a fun and interesting challenge.

The biggest issue we faced was due to the pandemic which prevented us from experimenting with lighting, projection and filming and actually producing the final film and installation. But as a response to these challenges we developed processes that will help us when we can actually film. This involves filming technicalities such as camera shots and how they will be achieved.

Over all I feel as if we were able to achieve more than we thought we could due to the circumstances which we all face. But I am looking forward to putting together all the pieces which we have both created and to finally film it.
