Experimental Sound

My experimental sound was based off of Basquiat's Obnoxious Liberals. Basquiat was a revolutionary artist who challenged the norms and going against tradition. I chose his piece as it was very two dimensional but was getting out quite a complex idea; looking at the slave trade, referring to biblical messages, commenting on consumerism and capitalism.
I wanted to reflect going against the norms by taking his visual piece and converting it to an audio file which may not even be pleasant to the ear.
I decided to do this by doing the painting bit by bit, Decoding a section at a time in rder to tell the story he was telling. I manipulated each section as as to how i felt were the most relevant to our society today.
The Sampson part of the painting represents slavery. As slavery was not as massive as it has been in the past, but is still an issue, this is depicted in the 4th row, the blue section more in the beginning  and a little now, later on in the piece.
below are different parts of the painting I focused on:

Over all, I was pleased I was able to finish the project. I thought it was interesting that the audio file came out so distorted and electronic based. However, all the alien-like sounds reminded me of the original idea of me wanting to approach the project in an unconventional way much like Basquiats work.
