Studio Shoot #8: Camera Work Shop no.1 - FS7 & GH4

 24th Nov. '20

Camera workshop with Anne inducting us on the Sony FS7 and Panasonic GH4. The crew was split in to two groups. As part of the camera crew, we were put with the producers as we would have direct contact with the camera during the shoot and had to become familiar with them.

We started our induction with the Sony FS7. The kit its self was consisted of 6 boxes:

- Camera body, zoom lens &a accessories

- Samyang Prime Lenses (5 lenses)

- E-image Tripod

- V - lock Pag Battery charger & 4 batteries

- Black Magic recorder & accessories

- Follow Focus

A key point that was made by Anne was that when the boxes are not directly being used, we need to make sure they are closed and locked to prevent damage to any of the kit that isn't being used. e.g. if some one goes to pick a box up and it isn't latched properly the kit could fall out and break or a box could be accidentally kicked making the kit fly out.

We began by learning about the purpose of what was in each box and how to set it up:

- making sure when the camera is set up to the camera plate it is in the middle and the weight is equally spread so the camera doesn't lean and isn't more likely to fall.

- when changing lenses, we learned that when passing it to another person, the person receiving it must say 'I've got the lens' as you are holding it in their hands before you let go. This prevents the likely hood of some one accidentally letting go too early or dropping the lenses.

- Also when changing lens, ensure that the rim of lens is placed flat up against body of the camera and listen for the click before letting go.

- Reset and change the camera settings

- How to set up the blackmagic video assist and adjust the setting.

We also got the opportunity to play with the cameras and get to know it a little which was really exciting. It was really important that we got a feel for the camera and learn how to accurately set it up (especially for Laura and Lili), as on our shoot we will be in charge of it.
