Maps & Networls #8: 1-1 Tutorial notes and reflection - Jeremiah
THINGS TO MENTION IN TUTORIAL:
- explained where I was in terms of moving away from learning code but was still interested in looking at AI and human memory. How could I come about this?
- Looked at The Memories of a Heartbeat and all the different ways memory was presented and what it meant. More of am aesthetically beautiful approach, less experimental
- Low Roar Album cover inspiration- I originally mentioned to Jeremiah that I wanted to do some animation, I was particularly looking at using Dragon Frame as this was something I really enjoyed doing in the past and was still interested in doing. But I ended up parking this idea because due to Covid-19 regulations I wasn't able to access the studios and equiptment at uni to do so. But after this album gave me this idea of doing digital animation with this style. Doing just an animation also means I need to have a solid narrative or idea of what i will be animating.
- Possibly looking at glitching and how I could involve this in my work. I was thinking because memory glitches in terms of it gets lost, morphed, altered and reimagined
MEETING NOTES AND IDEAS:
- look at https://www.artbreeder.com/ which looks at combining images through a collaboration of human inputs and software. It allows you to image breed, creating something that has never existed before. Able to edit how much combining you want or different aspects
- https://deepdreamgenerator.com/ which is also an input software which creates a distorted sense of reality within images. Created by google. https://deepai.org/machine-learning-model/deepdream. Could it go from mundane to nightmarish?
- Combine all ideas: refer to human memories of my own or as a collective. If I choose my own dialogue, I could be using this to create a digital self- linking to the theme of identity. Create a series of drawn frames (style inspired by Low Roar album '0') based on these memories (taking memory from a human perspective) that could be animated and then put that in to the systems and see how memory is viewed and interpreted by the machine.
- Triptych? Think about how I want to present final piece
- don't be afraid to use a software already made like art breeder or deep dream as I am looking at human memory and am making my own I will therefor be looking at how that will be manipulated by already existing AI - have a look for other different systems that have been created online and explore these.
- Have a go at then manipulating the outcome with glitching (could be just for experimenting)
- 'API' : a set of functions and procedures allowing the creation of applications that access the features or data of an operating system, application, or other service.
NEXT STEPS:
- Experiment with these softwares
- decide on memories
- create series of images in style of low roar based on these memories
- then experiment with these on softwares
