Studio Shoot #10: Shot Lists & Meeting Notes

For the first script that the directors created I started doing a shot list working with the director as it was important we had all the story boards done at the time so I talked through the idea with the director and got the basic shot list done so we then passed this on to Lili who was doing the story boards.

However, the directors then changed the script because the one at the time had a lot of unresolved features. During this process of working on the new script, I was lucky enough to be involved and was able to start taking notes on basic shot ideas and work on it from there. So from this I began making a shot list as we were already very behind due to all the script issues. As I had talked about it a lot with the director and had taken note of what she had said and envisioned, I began working on it talking it through with her, getting her main input. I broke it down looking at:

- shot type: whether this be a close ups, mid, wide shots.

- interior/exterior: inside the set and outside the set

- camera angleshttps://www.studiobinder.com/blog/types-of-camera-shot-angles-in-film I used this link as it gave an overview of everything you need to know to frame a shot.

- description: of what is happening in the shot, action, lighting,

I also left room for the audio team to put what sounds should accompany each shot and a column for what equiptment will be required for each shot so when it comes to shooting, we will be more organised and know exactly what we are working with

Meeting with:

Vicky - Director

Andrea - Producer for camera crew and story boarder

Laura - Camera woman

Lili - Camera assistant, and story boarder

Ieva - Gaffer

Flora -  DIT and Sound Assistant

and my self - DoP

Vicky and my self thought it was a good idea to set up a meeting so she could go over the list in complete detail, make any changes if I didn't get it right from what she was thinking and so we could get an input of the technicalities from the crew of how shots could be done, lit and what equiptment we would need for them too. Also for a chance for the director to speak directly to the Furthermore, because there had recently been quite a few changes to the set we had to adapt a few of the shots to where the set was changed. I think it was a super helpful meeting as the crew gave amazing input as to what lenses would be best and the logistics of things and so they knew exactly what they were thinking. During the meeting  was able to project my thoughts of how I thought it should be shot and advise the director too. We went over camera movements with Lili and Laura and talked about what was achievable and how we could do things.

The main issue that we came across in this meeting were the festoon lights as they were one of the main lighting effects that Vicky wanted and we said although it was a set design aspect, we needed to figure out how we would create the flicker effect when filming.

We also realised that we needed a practical light on set and that would be a lamp as we needed a glow that wasn't from the festoon so Vicky said a small lamp would work.
