After Effects Multi Screen: Initial Idea

Brief: Explore the relationship between the 'Human' and 'Digital World'. Have multiple screens running simultaneously and a connection between both screens.

For this project, I am really interested in looking at the way people get lost, consumed in to the digital world and even become one with this world. People (including myself) often go on their phones or laptop and become so immersed in swiping and flicking through social media. We tend to stop what we are doing and subconsciously check our phones for bombardments of notifications until we are swimming in comments, notifications and 'likes'.
I wanted to explore the idea of becoming one with the technology. As technology becomes more advanced, people find them selves more invested in a virtual world. This idea is directly reflected on to virtual reality entertainment  (VR). 3D worlds are formed through a VR goggles and we are able to interact with it. The This then led to the thought of 'how far can we push our digital presence? And how could I depict this.

Initial Idea:

1)  Screen1: have a character (animated on after effects) pull their phone out of their pocket and then drop it on the floor, as she touches it to pick it up she gets sucked in to the phone
Screen 2: as she gets sucked in she begins to appear but more pixelated. However on the screen will be a mouse arrow which the characters eyes will follow and we soon learn that they are controlled by the mouse. We are looking at them as if they are being controlled from beyond the screen by another human. Almost in a SIMS kind of way.

I approached this project more in an animation sense as I had no DSLR's and only my iPhone. Furthermore, as I had never used Adobe After Effects before, I really wanted to start from nothing in order to learn and then develop my skills especially as I am interested in having a deeper look at digital animation.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I began by having a go at creating a character on Adobe Animate which I soon learnt had a similar layout to After effects.

Character design 1:

This was my first attempt of making my character for this project and I began by making sure I had all the body parts on different layers and that all the layers were labeled so I wouldn't get them confused.

I then transferred this in to After Effects. From here I realised that I had no clue how to create a bone or skeleton for the character. This means that I could not figure out how to make the body move as one. Furthermore, I felt as if I did not like this style of character and this resulted in me starting again

However, through the process of making this character taught me new tools in Animate which could help me later on in this project. It also made allowed me to think in a way that when making a character I have to think about the way it moves and which layers would be in the foreground and which would be in the back.
